William "Gunny" Plodzien, 82, of Edison, passed away April 18, 2020 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. William was born and raised in Jersey City before settling in Edison in the late 1960's. William was a 1956 graduate and member of the track team at Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey. He was then employed by Ryerson Steels in Jersey City before serving in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal from 1963-1964. Following his military service, William was a patrolman on the Edison Township Police Department until his retirement in 1994. William was a proud member of both the New Jersey State PBA and the NJ Fraternal Order of Police. Upon retirement, William enjoyed working for his son Bill's swimming pool business. William enjoyed daily exercise and maintaining optimal physical health. He enjoyed spending time and vacationing with his family. William was a faithful, elite United States Veteran and a parishioner of St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church in Edison. Above all, William was a loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him. Predeceased by his wife, Regina, he is survived by his son Bill and his wife Kim of Edison, his son Michael and his wife Kelly of Edison, and his grandchildren, Billy, Gabriella, Michael, Mikayla, and Hailey. Burial will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in the Colonia section of Woodbridge. Funeral services will be private. A funeral mass with Marine Honors will take place at a later date.
