Robert W. Deiter, age 78, of Pine Beach, passed away Saturday October 29, 2016, at his home. Bob was born in Jersey City. He grew up in Bayonne and spent his summers at his familys home in Beachwood. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army. After marrying his wife, Barbara, they moved to Pine Beach to raise their family. Bob worked for the USPS for many years, retiring as Postmaster of the Forked River Post Office. He was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours surf fishing at Island Beach State Park, deer hunting in Pennsylvania and pheasant hunting in New Jersey. He was a member of the Orange Rod & Gun Club, Dushor, Pa; Poppe Gang Deer Hunting Club, Jackson; NJ State Federation of Sportmans Clubs; a life member of the Ocean County Fish & Game Protective Association, where he served as Treasurer for many years and a proud member of the NRA. Bob was a member of the Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Station 38, formerly serving as Vice-President and Trustee and a Life Member of the NJ State Firemans Relief Association. He loved to travel with his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all. Bob is predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara, parents, Wesley & Rose Deiter, brothers-in-law, James Trotter, James Kidney & Walter Heck and his sisters-in-law, Patricia Kidney and Diane McCallum. He is survived by his son, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Andrew Castro; grandchildren, Eric, Meredith, Ally, Alex, Olivia, Nicole, Andrew, Katie sister, Rosemarie Trotter and her companion Mike Vulpis; sister-in-law, Judy Heck; bother-in-law, Dick McCallum; and his companion Gladys Robbins; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Visitation will be 4-8pm Friday at Lacey Memorial Home, 1022 Lacey Road, Forked River. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9AM Saturday at St. Josephs RC Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Entombment will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 386, Pine Beach, NJ 08741.
