Our beloved mother, Nancy E. Gorby (Kent) passed away on November 22 after a hard-fought battle.
Nancy was born in Bayville and graduated Central Regional in 1976. She moved to Yachats, Oregon where she got married before returning to Ocean Gate to raise her family.
Nancy was heavily involved in her community from the 1980s to the early 2000s. She helped organize hayrides and carnivals as a founding member of Club Ocean Gate. She fundraised for the OGFD, was the disaster shelter manager for the Red Cross, and held bike-a-thons to raise money for St. Jude’s. She worked for Camp Ocean Gate and the Recreation Department. She was on the board of the Home and School Association and was the most amazing “Classroom Mom” ever, never missing a field trip or a class party.
As a stay-at-home mom, her favorite projects were throwing elaborate birthday parties for her girls and turning the front yard into a Halloween Spooktacular every year. She also took great joy in the years she worked with disabled adults as a group home manager.
She lived in Livermore, California and loved visiting her favorite places, Monterey and Big Sur.
She will be remembered in Ocean Grove for being a kind-hearted and giving neighbor.
She was a Nanny who loved nothing more than to cuddle and play games with her grandkids. As a wife and mom, she was a strong, but gentle, unbreakable force of nature.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Barbara Kent, and her brothers, Garry, Bill, and Rich Kent.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, George F. Gorby, her girls, Megan Conte (Marty), Heather Gorby, Amber Gorby, and Krista Gorby; her nephew Richard Kent; and grandchildren Lea, Daniel, and Mason Conte, and Jake and Jaxson Gorby.
Services will be announced at a later date. In memory of Nancy, please make a donation to the Cancer Research Institute or Endocrine Society.
