Joseph R. Lucey, 88, of Forked River passed away on September 7, 2023. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he grew up in Elizabeth, moving to Linden in 1980 and resided in Forked River since retiring in 2001.
He graduated from Edison Vocational and Technical High School in Elizabeth, NJ where he held a track record from 1952 to 2000. He was a devoted son who delivered newspapers before school to help his mother. He also donated playground equipment to a local orphanage in Elizabeth.
Joseph served in the Air Force.
Joseph was a Maintenance Mechanic for the P.Q. Corporation and was recognized by the company for his innovative solutions to production issues. These solutions were recognized and utilized company wide. He was active in the Lacey Elks Club and was honored as Elk of the Year and made an Honorary Lifetime Member. Joseph managed the docks and grounds at the Elks for 20 years.
He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Jennie (Stanziola) Lucey, and his sister Maryann Lucey. He is survived by his daughter Kathy Parlapiano and her husband Jim of Cranford; three grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Rebecca Parlapiano; his brother John Lucey of Stuart Florida , his stepdaughter Susan York, his nieces and nephew, and great nephews and nieces.
He will be remembered for, among other things, his great singing voice, sense of humor, and generous heart.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. at Forked River Funeral Services 1022 Lacey Road, Forked River
He will be laid to rest at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge NJ.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
