Elizabeth (Betty) Szyarto, of Freehold passed away on February 1, 2023. Born in Perth Amboy, she lived in Cliffwood for many years before moving to Forked River in 1986, where she lived until moving to Monmouth Crossing, Freehold in 2021. Mrs. Szyarto was employed by the Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education for 17 years as a cafeteria aide before retiring in 1986. She was a homemaker, loved card games, and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with her friends. She was a communicant of St. Pius X RC Church, Forked River, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. A loving and cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was pre-deceased by her husband John in 2009 after 64 years of marriage, and by her son Kenneth in 2017. She is survived by her son John and his wife Laurie of Howell, her daughter Cindy DeCosta and her husband Bill of Largo, FL, and her daughter-in-law Gwen Szyarto of Boynton Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Tuesday February 7, 2023 from 10-11am at Forked River Funeral and Cremation Service, 1022 Lacey Road, Forked River. A Blessing will be offered at 11:00am at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Brig Gen WC Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Szyarto's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
